EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the year 1910, capturing the grandeur of The Middlesex Hospital in London. Standing tall and proud, this historic institution served as a teaching hospital for over two centuries. Founded in 1745 by Charles Bell, a skilled surgeon trained at Edinburgh Medical School, The Middlesex Hospital started its journey on Windmill Street before relocating to Mortimer Street in 1757. For decades, it played a vital role in providing medical care and education to countless individuals. The image showcases the architectural beauty of the hospital's exterior, with intricate details adorning its façade. A symbol of hope and healing, it stood as an iconic landmark within the Fitzrovia area of London. However, time marches on relentlessly. In 2005, after serving generations of patients and training numerous doctors through its esteemed medical school dating back to 1746, The Middlesex Hospital closed its doors for the final time. Its legacy lives on though; staff members and services were transferred to various sites within the University College London Hospitals NHS Trust. This photograph is not just a glimpse into history but also serves as a tribute to all those who dedicated their lives to healthcare within these hallowed walls. It reminds us that progress may bring change but cannot erase the impact institutions like The Middlesex Hospital have had on our society's well-being.
