Hole made by robbers to gain admission to Tutankhamuns tomb, Egypt, 1933-1934

Hole made by robbers to gain admission to Tutankhamuns tomb, Egypt, 1933-1934. The discovery of Tutankhamuns tomb in 1922 by British archaeologist Howard Carter (1874-1939) was one of the most astounding discoveries in archaeology. Tutankhamun was a previously unknown pharaoh whose name had been eradicated from historical records by one of his successors because of his association with the heretical pharaoh Akhenaten, who was Tutankhamuns father-in-law. Consequently his tomb, uniquely, had remained undisturbed by grave robbers, apart from a few items taken probably within months of his burial. A print from Wonders of the Past, Volume I, 1933-1934

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a significant moment in history - the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922. The image showcases the hole made by robbers to gain access to the sacred burial site, located in Egypt's Valley of the Kings. Tutankhamun, an enigmatic pharaoh whose name had been erased from historical records due to his association with Akhenaten, his heretical father-in-law, remained unknown until this groundbreaking find. Unlike other tombs that had fallen victim to grave robbers over centuries, Tutankhamun's final resting place had miraculously remained untouched. The photograph offers a glimpse into the interior of the mausoleum, revealing burial goods carefully arranged around the walls. These artifacts provide valuable insights into ancient Egyptian culture and offer a revelation about life during Tutankhamun's reign. British archaeologist Howard Carter played a pivotal role in unearthing this extraordinary treasure trove. His tireless efforts led him to this remarkable site and forever changed our understanding of ancient Egypt. As we gaze upon this print from Wonders of the Past Volume I (1933-1934), we are transported back in time to witness both awe-inspiring beauty and criminal intent intertwined within these hallowed grounds. This image serves as a reminder of humanity's insatiable curiosity for unraveling mysteries buried deep within history itself.
