Recently completed Doncaster North Bus Station, South Yorkshire, 1967
Recently completed Doncaster North Bus Station, South Yorkshire, 1967. Doncaster has two bus stations, one North and one South, which serve different areas. This one is adjacent to the railway station and a Leeds bus and a Barnsley bus can be seen. As with a great number of the bland, late 1960s concrete structures, the station and multi-storey car park had a limited life span and were totally redeveloped in 2007 to include an extension to the adjacent Frenchgate Shopping Centre, increased parking facilities and an updated bus terminus travel centre

Capturing the Essence of 1960s Concrete Architecture - Doncaster North Bus Station, South Yorkshire
EDITORS COMMENTS
. This print takes us back to the year 1967, showcasing the recently completed Doncaster North Bus Station in South Yorkshire, England. Situated adjacent to the railway station, this bustling transportation hub served as a gateway for commuters traveling across different areas of Doncaster. In this snapshot frozen in time, we witness two iconic double-decker buses - one bound for Leeds and another destined for Barnsley - parked outside the station. The monochrome filter enhances the starkness of the late 1960s concrete structure that defined an era of architectural design characterized by simplicity and functionality. However, like many structures from that period, this bus station had a limited lifespan. In 2007, it underwent a remarkable transformation to accommodate an extension to the neighboring Frenchgate Shopping Centre while also modernizing its facilities with increased parking spaces and an updated travel center. As we admire this image captured by Michael Walters from Paul Walters Worldwide Photography Ltd. , we are reminded of how our built environment evolves over time. It serves as a testament to both progress and preservation as cities adapt their infrastructure to meet changing needs while honoring their historical roots. This photograph offers us a glimpse into Britain's rich transport heritage and invites contemplation on how architecture shapes our daily lives.
