Caesar Photo Sandringham Wimborne

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, taken in 1905 by W. Pottle of Wimborne, captures a moment of relaxation and affection between King Edward VII and his beloved dog, Caesar, at Sandringham Estate. King Edward VII, also known as Edward VII or Bertie, reigned from 1901 until his death in 1910. He was the eldest son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and succeeded to the throne following his mother's death. King Edward VII was known for his love of hunting, racing, and his extensive collection of fine art. However, his most enduring and well-documented companionship was with his dogs. Caesar, a Scottish Terrier, was one of his favorite canine companions. The king's fondness for dogs was evident in his extensive menagerie, which included many breeds, such as Bulldogs, Pugs, and Dachshunds. In this photograph, King Edward VII sits comfortably in a chair, dressed in a hunting jacket, while Caesar lies at his feet. The king's warm smile and relaxed posture convey a sense of contentment and happiness. The setting, Sandringham Estate, was a favorite retreat for the monarch, who spent much of his time there. The estate, located in Norfolk, England, was also the place where the king hunted, entertained guests, and enjoyed the company of his family and dogs. This photograph is a testament to the deep bond between King Edward VII and Caesar, and it offers a glimpse into the personal side of the monarch's life. The image has been preserved through the years, allowing us to appreciate the connection between the king and his loyal companion. Today, it serves as a reminder of the enduring bond between humans and their pets, and the joy and companionship they bring to our lives.
