The image is based on a botanical illustration by David Blair, which was published in Robert Bentley and Henry Trimen's Medicinal Plants, a comprehensive work on the medicinal properties of plants, published in London in 1880. The Poison Bulb, Crinum asiaticum, is a large and striking plant native to South Asia and Australia. The bulb, from which the plant derives its name, is indeed poisonous, containing calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation and swelling if ingested or come into contact with the skin.
