EDITORS COMMENTS
The print captures a historic moment as the men of the British Everest expedition finally arrive home at London airport. After enduring a grueling round-the-clock delay, their plane was held up overnight in Rome, causing further anticipation for their return. Led by 42-year-old Col John Hunt, this courageous group includes renowned mountaineer Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tensing Norgay, also known as "Tiger". Amidst the jubilant scene at London airport, we witness these hero climbers who conquered Mount Everest waving the Union Jack flag proudly. Their triumphant feat is symbolized by this iconic image of the flag they had fixed to the summit of Everest itself. The year is July 1953. Accompanying them on this joyous occasion are Mrs. Hunt and Tensing's wife Angalammi along with their daughters Pember (aged 16) and Nema (aged 14). It is evident that not only were these brave individuals driven by personal ambition but also supported by loving families who stood beside them throughout their arduous journey. This photograph serves as a testament to human perseverance and exploration during an era marked by expeditions into uncharted territories. As we look back on this significant moment in history, it reminds us of the indomitable spirit that drives mankind to conquer new frontiers against all odds.
