Cardiff went on to lose the second leg match 1-0 in Tashkent which was 2000 miles from Moscows home. The game was played there due to the Russian capital being frozen solid. It was the longest trip ever undertaken by a football club in European competition.
A replay was needed which was played in the neutral venue of Augsburg, Germany with Cardiff emerging as 1-0 winners.
