St Benets Abbey, Lanivet, Cornwall. 1982
Wall Art and Photo Gifts from Royal Cornwall Museum
St Benets Abbey, Lanivet, Cornwall. 1982
At the time of the photograph, the Grade II listed building stood beside the A30, the main road through Cornwall. The Abbey now stands on a much quieter road as the Bodmin by-pass is now part of the A30. It was built in 1411 and is at the half way point of the Saints Way, a medieval route taken by pilgrims on their way from Ireland to France. The Abbey is of the Benedictine Order and later became bed and breakfast accommodation. Photographer: Charles Woolf
