Froghopper. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the underside of the head of a froghopper (superfamily Cercopoidea). The antenna can be seen (upper left and right) above the large compound eyes on either side of the head. Also known as the spittlebug, this insect feeds on plants, using cutting and sucking mouthparts to extract the sap. Its well-developed back legs are used for jumping great distances. Magnification: x15 when printed 10 centimetres wide
