Two Men Chatting in a Pub: A Tale of Frogs, Rats, and Excess (Comic Postcard, 20th Century) In this delightfully humorous comic postcard from the 20th century, two men are seen engaged in a lively conversation at a cozy British pub. The scene is set with the warm, inviting glow of the public house, the men clad in thick coats and red noses, their glasses raised in a toast to friendship and merriment. But as they chat, their conversation takes an unexpected turn, as their visions of the night begin to take on a most peculiar and amusing twist. As one man leans in closer to his companion, gesturing animatedly with his glass, he seems to be describing an encounter with an extraordinary menagerie of creatures. "And then, old chap," he says, "I saw the most awful thing! A whole horde of frogs and rats, all gathered around the bar, having a right royal knees-up!" His friend, equally astonished, leans back in his chair, a look of disbelief on his face. "Frogs and rats, you say? In a pub? That's preposterous!" he exclaims. "But wait, I've heard of such things. A friend of mine once told me about a place, not far from here, where the drinks were said to have a most peculiar effect on the mind. They called it 'The Doctor's Double Entendre,' and the patrons were known to see the most fantastical things when under its influence." The men laugh heartily, their glasses clinking together once more as they continue their conversation, no doubt sharing more tales of the strange and wonderful visions that come with a night of excessive drinking. This charming postcard, with its delightful use of humor and double meanings, is a testament to the enduring appeal of a good pub tale and the camaraderie that comes with sharing a drink with a friend.
