A new project at Hawker Siddeley Aviation, Bitteswell, is well and truly airborne
A new project at Hawker Siddeley Aviation, Bitteswell, is well and truly airborne. The first of 21 Buccaneer aircraft due to be modified and serviced at the factory has been handed back to the RAF after its eight-month overhaul. Only an hour after leaving Bitteswell, the low-level strike reconnaissance aircraft was due at RAF Laarbruch in Germany ready for front line operation. Mr Vic Lawton, production superintendent, said: " This is a new project for HSA Bitteswell. It is the first time that we have handled Buccaneers." He said that during the eight-month programme the Buccaneer had been stripped down and virtually rebuilt. Nearly 50 men are involved on the project. Although 21 Buccanners are due to pass through the factory, only five are there at one time. As each plane is handed back to the RAF another is flown in. The first completed plane was collected by pilot, Flt.-Lt. Rob Williams, who flew in from Germany with his observer, Wing Commander John Palmer. Buccanners have been in service for about 15 years.

A Milestone Achievement - Hawker Siddeley Aviation's New Project Takes Flight
EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this photo print, we witness a significant moment at Hawker Siddeley Aviation in Bitteswell. The first of 21 Buccaneer aircraft scheduled for modification and servicing has successfully completed its eight-month overhaul, soaring into the skies once again. This remarkable achievement marks a new venture for HSA Bitteswell as they handle Buccaneers for the very first time. Under the watchful eye of Mr Vic Lawton, production superintendent, nearly 50 skilled men have meticulously stripped down and rebuilt this low-level strike reconnaissance aircraft to ensure its optimal performance. With only five Buccanners present at any given time during the project, each plane is handed back to the RAF as another takes its place on-site. The proud recipient of this fully refurbished plane is none other than Flt. -Lt. Rob Williams, accompanied by his observer Wing Commander John Palmer. Within just an hour after leaving Bitteswell behind, their destination awaits them at RAF Laarbruch in Germany where this mighty Buccaneer will be ready to serve on the front lines once more. Having served faithfully for approximately 15 years already, these iconic Buccanners continue to prove their worth with every successful mission they undertake. This photograph captures not only a historic milestone but also showcases the dedication and expertise of those involved in breathing new life into these magnificent warbirds.
