EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a stunning collection of singing-bird boxes and snuff boxes, adorned with exquisite enamel and silver-gilt craftsmanship. The topmost box is a Swiss enameled and jeweled gold snuff-box from Geneva, circa 1780. Its oval shape features guilloche panels coated with translucent plum-color enamel, bordered by opaque white enamel bands. The lid is embellished with rose-cut diamond-studded initials SF within a border of old-mine cut diamonds and strass. Opalescent enamel beads and translucent green enamelled leaves adorn the matted gold borders, creating an opulent design. This masterpiece comes complete with a fitted green shagreen case. To the center left sits a Swiss enameled silver-gilt singing-bird box crafted by Jacques Bruguier (1801-1871) in Geneva around 1840/1860. Its rectangular form boasts waisted lobed corners, while the cover showcases flowers cast in silver-gilt on a dark blue enamelled ground surrounded by scrolls. A slide on the front side opens to reveal an oval flap enamelled with a picturesque mountainous landscape view. Once activated, this enchanting bird rotates on its axis, flaps its wings, turns its head, and opens its beak. Lastly, we have a French Empire double musical box created by L. Baudin (flourishing between 1810-1812). This rectangular silver-gilt plated box features engraved panels of horizontal engine-turning forming reeded lozenges floating on wavy grounds on both the cover and base. Floral scroll motifs frame these intricate designs against frosted backgrounds. Each piece in this remarkable collection represents the pinnacle of European artistry during their respective periods – true treasures for any connoisseur or collector to behold.
